My pastor challenged the congregation to memorize a Bible verse this week. He chose 1 Corinthians 10:13: “There hath no temptation taken you such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
There is a spiritual battle taking place and our adversary, the devil, is relentless. Need a strategy on how to confront this foe? Fight back with the truth and power God provides. All of us face temptation, yet God “makes a way of escape.” In other words, He provides an alternative choice. We can steer our decision to victory, rather than be defeated by the lure of sin. His Word promises it.
It’s so difficult to tear oneself away from the temptation-whatever form it has taken; it could be physical (like a food addiction), sexual (lust) or emotional (wrong thinking),–just to name a few. Satan is a keen observer and takes note of what our weaknesses are. When the time is right, when defenses are down, he strikes. But know that God is on our side, ever-faithful and powerful.
No matter how weary we may feel, we can be assured of victory-God’s Word promises that in this passage! Use His Word to equip you to stand firm and give you the strength to bravely bear it.
